Abdel Fattah al-Burhan Abdelrahman al-Burhan (Arabic: عبد الفتاح البرهان عبد الرحمن البرهان, romanized: ʿAbd al-Fattāḥ al-Burhān ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Burhān; born 1960) [10] is a Sudanese army general who is the de facto ruler of Sudan.

Burhan (Arabic: برهان, Burhān) is an Arabic male name, an epithet of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad. [1] . It is especially popular in Turkey, as it respects Turkish vowel harmony and the end syllable "-han" can be interpreted as the Turkish variant of "Khan".

On July 30, 2024, the de facto ruler of Sudan and concurrent chairman of its Transitional Sovereignty Council and head of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan was targeted in an assassination attempt using drones at a military graduation ceremony in Jubayt, Red Sea State in eastern Sudan.
