Former British nurse and convicted child serial killer Lucy Letby on Thursday lost an attempt to appeal against her conviction for trying to murder a newborn baby, amid questions over the fairness of her trials.

Ms. Letby is serving 15 life sentences after the deaths and collapses of babies in the neonatal unit where she worked. On Thursday judges will consider whether she can appeal one of her convictions.

The former neonatal nurse is due to ask three senior judges at the Court of Appeal for approval to challenge her conviction for trying to kill the newborn, known as Child K. She was handed her 15th whole life order in July after being found guilty in a retrial.
