Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani will hold a press conference on Wednesday in Doha where his country has been hosting talks towards a Gaza ceasefire deal, according to an invitation by Qatar's state news agency (QNA).

Talks set to resume in Doha on Tuesday reportedly include the Middle East envoys for the incoming and outgoing US presidents.

The terms of a deal between Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages are being finalised, a Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations has told the BBC. It comes as White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said a truce and hostage deal could be done "this week".

Negotiators in Qatar appeared close on Wednesday to sealing a deal for a ceasefire in the war in Gaza. Hamas had given verbal approval to the ceasefire and hostage return proposal under negotiation in Qatar and was waiting for more information to give final written approval, a Palestinian official, who asked not to be named, told Reuters.

Mediator Qatar gave Israel and Hamas a final draft of a deal to end the war in Gaza on Monday, after a midnight "breakthrough" in talks attended by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's envoy, an official briefed on the negotiations told Reuters.

Qatar said Tuesday that Israel and Hamas are at their “closest point” in months to a deal that could halt the devastating 15-month-long war in Gaza and release hostages.

Ansari, adviser to the Qatari prime minister on Jan. 14 said ceasefire "talks are now underway on the final details" and that a deal is at the "closest point" it has ever been.
