Storm Éowyn was "probably the strongest storm" to hit the UK in at least 10 years, the Met Office has said, with wind gusts in excess of 100mph (160km/h).

The Met Office for Wales on Saturday reads: "A mainly dry day with lengthy sunny periods, but the odd shower is possible around western coasts with a band of heavier showers arriving later in the day. Freshening winds during the afternoon. Maximum temperature 4 °C."

People in Wales have been warned to brace for further weather disruption in the coming days. The Met Office said heavy rain, strong winds and wintry showers could bring flooding and travel delays in the wake of Storm Eowyn.

Airports have been disrupted by strong winds sweeping through the East of England as a result of Storm Éowyn. A yellow weather warning from the Met Office for wind speeds of up to 50mph (80km/h) was in place for between 05:00 and 15:00 GMT.

MORE weather warnings have been issued for Dorset in the wake of Storm Eowyn. Winds of between 50 and 60mph could hit the county on Sunday, the Met Office has warned. A yellow warning will be in place from 8am on Sunday,
