The motorist survived the crash after the car landed on its roof.

A major railway line is closed after a car driven by a suspected drunk-driver crashed on to train tracks. Images from the scene show the vehicle came to a rest upside down and surrounded by debris on tracks in Salford, Greater Manchester, causing major disruption to train services between Manchester and Liverpool on Friday morning.

The driver appears to have escaped relatively unhurt but serious travel problems are predicted for most of the day.

The main railway line between Liverpool and Manchester will remain closed for most of the day after a car plunged on to the tracks. Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales services face significant disruption until the car can be removed from the line which connects Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly.
