The Houston Astros haven’t remained in the background of MLB rumors this winter for a potential re-signing of Alex Bregman.

With Pete Alonso finally agreeing to return to the New York Mets, the best hitter left on the free-agent market is unquestionably Alex Bregman. The two-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion is coming off of a Gold Glove Award season but remains without a contract even as spring training approaches.

Houston has reportedly had a standing six-year, $156MM offer for much of the winter. Jon Heyman of the New York Post writes that the Astros have bumped that number higher, though specifics on the new proposal aren’t clear.
