Federal immigration agents carried out the first large-scale arrest operation in nationwide under the newly reinstated Trump administration this week, targeting undocumented immigrants with criminal records.

A civil liberties group is concerned that state Sen. Terri Bryant is encouraging prison workers to circumvent the state’s sanctuary law.

"Our greatest concern is that people may choose not to come to us for help out of fear," said Northern Illinois Food Bank CEO Julie Yorko.

After Chicago Public Schools (CPS) initially claimed that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents visited a South Side elementary school Friday morning, it was later confirmed that this was not the case.

Concerns about immigration raids are already impacting school attendance in some areas of Illinois, and the state superintendent of schools said he's concerned. This comes as Governor JB Pritzker is suggesting planned raids in Illinois could be political payback.
