A depression over the Bay of Bengal has turned into a deep depression on Tuesday and is likely to transform into a cyclonic storm in a few years, hitting the Odisha-West Bengal coast on October 25

Storm surge is very likely to inundate low lying areas of Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore districts of Odisha and East Medinipur districts of West Bengal.

The storm will cross North Odisha and West Bengal coast between Puri and Sagar Island close to Bhitarkanika and Dhamra during the night time of Thursday to the morning of Friday as a severe cyclonic storm.

The cyclonic storm developed over the east-central Bay of Bengal is likely to make landfall on the Odisha coast between Bhitarkanika in Kendrapara district and Dhamara area of Bhadrak district between October 24 night and October 25 morning as a severe cyclonic storm.

Cyclone Dana, which is still hovering over Bay of Bengal is inching closer to the country's eastern coast. The states of Odisha and West Bengal are expected to face the worst of the cyclone's fury. Both states are bracing for impact and governments there have swung into action to ensure minimum damage.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the severe cyclone ‘Dana’, with wind speeds expected to reach up to 120 kmph (75 mph), is likely to hit between Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district and Dhamra Port in Bhadrak district by Friday morning.

The India Meteorological Department said in its forecast, "…the system is very likely to cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 and early morning October 25 as a severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph with gusting 120 kmph.
