CHARLOTTE — An active investigation is unfolding in an apartment complex parking lot in north Charlotte late Wednesday afternoon. Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the area along Oaklawn Avenue around 4 p.m. At the scene, we could see several fire engines, ambulances, and growing crowds of people.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is conducting an investigation into a fatal crash in north Charlotte at the intersection of I-485 and Mallard Creek Road. Officials say the Mallard Creek Bridge is closed as well as the inner lanes of I-485.

All lanes of I-485 have reopened after a deadly crash in northeast Charlotte on Monday night. The wreck happened around 11 p.m., and shut down the inner loop of I-485 near the Mallard Creek Road exit.
