Robert Sharkevich Sr. died in an UTV crash while responded to a brush fire on Lamentation Mountain in Connecticut on Tuesday evening, officials say.

Gov. Ned Lamont directed U.S. and state flags in Connecticut lowered to half-staff in honor of a member of the Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Department and former member of the Fire Department who died in the line of duty while responding to a brush fire at Lamentation Mountain in Berlin on Tuesday.

The state is mourning a Wethersfield firefighter who died on Tuesday while responding to a massive brush fire that has burned about 90 acres in Berlin and Meriden. Officials said that it could take a month to fully extinguish the fire.
