The Pro Football Hall of Fame opened its doors to four new members on Thursday: Cornerback Eric Allen, defensive end Jared Allen, tight end Antonio Gates and wide receiver Sterling Sharpe.

CINCINNATI — Former All-Pro lineman Willie Anderson seemingly has to keep waiting for his enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He foreshadowed the news that he did not get past the finalist group for a fourth straight year.

Gates, who caught 116 touchdown passes in a 16-year career spent entirely with the Chargers, is elected alongside defensive end Jared Allen, wide receiver Sterling Sharpe and cornerback Eric Allen.

While Evans was overlooked, one former Saint did get his call for Canton. Cornerback Eric Allen had an outstanding 14-year NFL career from 1988 to 2001. Allen played for the New Orleans Saints from 1995 to 1997. Over those three years he made one Pro Bowl and had 5 of his 54 career interceptions.

Jared Allen, whose NFL path started with the Kansas City Chiefs, has been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A pass rushing specialist, Allen went on to play six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and finish his career with the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers. He racked up 136 career sacks, leading the NFL twice in that department.

Green Bay Packers legend Sterling Sharpe is going to Canton. On Thursday night, Sharpe was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2025. Sharpe was voted in as a Senior candidate, only one of three finalists in the category.

Jared Allen, who played for the Bears in 2014 and 2015, has been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025.

Edge rusher Jared Allen is known as a Vikings or Chiefs sack artist but spent 18 games with the Bears before his career ended, and now he's headed for Canton.
