According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the severe cyclone ‘Dana’, with wind speeds expected to reach up to 120 kmph (75 mph), is likely to hit between Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district and Dhamra Port in Bhadrak district by Friday morning.

Cyclone Dana is expected to bring severe rainfall to the shores of Odisha and West Bengal on October 24, 2024. Between the evening of October 24 and the morning of October 25, wind gusts of up to 120 kmph are predicted, with maximum wind speeds of 100–110 kmph.

According to a notification, from Wednesday till October 26, the educational institutes will remain closed in the districts of North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Bankura, Howrah, Hooghly and Kolkata.

The movement of trains has also been impacted by Cyclone Dana, leading to the cancellation of 198 trains passing through or originating from Odisa by the East Coast Railways

The administration in West Bengal is on high alert while all necessary precautionary measures have been taken to minimise the impact of Cyclone Dana which is expected to make a landfall between Bhitarkanika of Kendrapara district and the Dhamara area of Bhadrak district.
