Hurricane force winds posing danger to life have hit the UK, as millions of people have been urged to stay at home

A man has died in Ireland as the hurricane-force winds of Storm Eowyn continue to batter the British Isles.Flights have been cancelled, roads closed and ferry services axed as winds surpassing 100mph hit parts of the UK and Ireland throughout Friday.

The Met Office has warned London could see wind speeds of up to 50mph today caused by Storm Éowyn. European meteorologists have also warned the capital could see ‘tornado-style’ events.

With Storm Éowyn battering Britain, several social media users reacted to warnings issued by the Met Office, with comments ranging from fairly sane to absolutely nuts.

The Met Office has put a yellow weather warning in place for Reading and areas across the south east as Storm Eowyn brings strong winds to the area.

Schools are closed and millions have been told to stay inside as Storm Eowyn brings winds of over 100mph to Britain. A rare red weather warning is in place in parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, with the Met Office warning of a significant risk to life posed by flying debris as well as damage to buildings and power lines.
