Sensex opened at 74,474.98, slightly higher than its previous close of 74,332.58. The index quickly gained over 350 points, reaching the day's high of 74,713.17.

India's benchmark indices opened flat on Monday after posting their strongest weekly gains in three months, while broader Asian markets declined amid concerns over U.S. tariffs and deflationary trends in China.

After three weeks of decline, global markets staged a robust rebound last week with nearly 2 per cent gains. Positive global and domestic indicators bolstered investor sentiment, even as traders brace for a shorter trading week due to holidays.

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a negative start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 22,605 level, a discount of nearly 45 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

In the early trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 88.94 points to 74,421.52. Meanwhile, the Nifty was also up by 41.10 points to 22,593.60.

In the Nifty 50 list, 28 stocks opened in decline, 20 stocks opened in the green, and two remained unchanged. IndusInd Bank emerged as the top loser in the Nifty 50, declining by 5.35 percent, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra, which fell by 2.22 percent, and Trent, which declined by 1.29 percent.

Indian markets closed Friday with modest gains, outperforming global peers. The Nifty 50 rose 0.03%, ending the week up 1.88%. Sensex fell 0.08% but gained 1.66% weekly.

The BSE Sensex and Nifty50, India’s key equity indices, opened on a subdued note on Friday. While the BSE Sensex was above 74,300, the Nifty50 hovered around 22,550. As of 9:44 am, the BSE Sensex was trading at 74,
