During the offseason, Manaea has worked out with Pete Alonso in Tampa. The two are close friends. Predictably, Manaea said he “very much” hopes the Mets and Alonso can work out a deal. “Whatever happens with Pete, I’m always going to support him,” Manaea said, “but I would definitely love to have him back on the Mets and be our first baseman.”

Besides Goldschmidt, the Yankees have Ben Rice on the 40-man roster as a lefty-hitting first baseman. They also have DJ LeMahieu, who can play first if not starting at third base, and Oswaldo Cabrera, who has played first.

Dom Smith, the former first-round pick of the Mets, has agreed to a minor league deal with the Yankees, The Post confirmed. Smith, 29, played in 93 games in the majors last season, split between the Reds and Red Sox.

The New York Yankees added some depth on Monday, signing Dominic Smith to a minor league deal, the YES Network’s Jack Curry reported. Smith, a first baseman and outfielder, played for the Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Reds last season.
