According to the National Weather Service, the highest snowfall amounts were reported in Olathe and Shawnee, while the lowest were in Leavenworth, Prairie Village, Weatherby Lake, Platte Woods and Oakview.

The next round of snow is already falling in the Kansas City metropolitan area, which only adds to the large snow piles that line city streets and neighborhoods.

Kansas City International Airport, for example, has an 85% chance of snowfall exceeding .1 of an inch, according to data from the weather service. The probability of higher snowfall totals drops rapidly, with only a 50% chance of snowfall exceeding 1 inch. The chance of 2 inches or more of snow is less than 10%.

Kansas City’s record snow means many will be out shoveling. But without the proper precautions, shoveling snow can put you at risk of injury.

The weather service says Kansas City has a low chance, less than 40%, of a dusting of snow and less than a 2% chance of seeing an inch of snow. Counties on the southern border of the Kansas City forecast area — Pettis, Henry, Bates and Linn counties — and surrounding areas are expected to see higher snowfall amounts.

The NWS has issued warnings, and residents are advised to take precautions as travel disruptions and power outages are anticipated this weekend.
