Several Republican Governors have pledged to fly their flags at full-staff. despite President Biden’s former directive.

The House speaker announced Tuesday that the flags on the Hill will be raised for Trump’s inauguration and lowered again the following day to honor the death of former president Jimmy Carter.

Trump will then give his second inaugural address on the presidential inaugural platform to thousands of spectators on the National Mall and viewers across the world. Inaugural addresses typically let presidents address the nation’s past and present their vision of the country and its future under their leadership.

The planned absence Monday follows another notable absence last week at the state funeral of former president Jimmy Carter.
