European Union election observers have flagged irregularities in Mozambique’s election as the country awaits the announcement of official results this week.

Election observers working for the European Union (EU) say some voting results have been doctored in Mozambique, as unrest in the country continues to grow. Thousands of people joined opposition protests on Monday that were called by independent presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane.

Mozambique's president warned Wednesday that calls for violent protests could be considered criminal acts as tensions grew ahead of the imminent release of election results. "Inciting the population to revolt,
