Beautiful, quiet, peaceful place to enjoy birds and wildlife. We were able to see deer and a variety of birds. We appreciated the paved trail and how clean the park was! Full review by Erin B

What a beautiful drive, stunning scenery, pack a lunch and enjoy the drive. We saw deer, lots of beautiful birds, had a coatimundi jump on our picnic table while we ate our lunch. Full review by 240karis

There are grill places in the campgrounds and also in the picnic areas. However, due to the high rains and snows there has been a lot of undergrowth which will make for a fire hazard. There may be fire restrictions in place. Please check with the ranger service for restrictions before planning to grill there. I understand the enjoyment of an outdoor cooked meal, but safety first!

From the small town of Green Valley the entrance is about 11 miles and is fairly flat with a few "dips" in the roadway (parts of the 'wash'). There is a small parking area near the entrance and you can get out and hike near the canyon but then drive in further and higher. There are houses on both sides, it's not windy but it is a nicely paved 2 lane road up through the forest. There are a few curves, near the end where a loop turns you back around to head down and out. Several parking areas to picnic and hike. It was lovely.
Q:
Any flowers blooming at Madera Canyon right now? (March 8, 2019)
A:
We were there last week and only saw a few varieties of cactus in bloom. Should not be long.
Q:
Are dogs allowed on the hiking trails at Madera Canyon?
A:
Yes as long as they can tolerate the sunshine and heat. Bring water.
Q:
only one star yet it is your favorite place?
A:
If I gave it only 1 star rhat was incorrect. I would give it 4 stars. A beautiful park area for birdwatching and light hiking. A great day trip.
