There are specifi timings for Forest entry. I suggest you can check the timings on your way to Vythiri (before you checkin). Passes are issued twice a day 6am and 2 pm. But please do check the timing. When you buy your entry pass, you will get to book your Jeep and Forest guide. You dont have much of a choice there. They operate a queue and whoever is alloted you simply have to go with them. Waynad is not a great place for wildlife / safari. The jeep travels on a 8-9 Km road thru the forest, and you simply have to watch whatever pops up on your route. If you are a wildlife lover, then other forests along the Nilgiri ranges are much better, and well organized.
Q:
How much does it costs for a jeep safari for 2 persons ?
A:
125 per head + 600 for jeep (up to 5 persons allowed in jeep.) If possible you can share jeep with some more people. additional fees for Still and video camera.

I think its open during October. Jeep is not required as the noise will scare birds and other wildlife. During my visit I found many student groups but they only contributed to noise and was more busy shooting selfies than try and locate birds. Its a good place for a walk and observing nature provided you maintain absolute silence. Q:
is the sanctuary open in august and has anyone visited then? thanks Anna
A:
It is open in August and would be lush after the monsoons. But in Wayanad, you can see the animals in the road itself...
