Hi, I was in Romania a month ago and traveled extensively. Contrary to what has been posted here, you can do Bus trips from Bucharest to Bran. Most tours will take you to both Peles and Bran Castle. You should be able to book a tour from your hotel or, hostel or, other accommodation. I however, decided to travel to Brasov by train and, then took a bus onto Bran. Brasov is well worth visit with plenty to see. Bran offers a lot more than just the castle, as well, especially if you want to hike. Between Brasov and Bran is Rasnov, a fortress town that is worth the visit....again, with plenty of good mountain walking. These are beautiful areas of the country and interesting historically.

It's easy to get to the old center from the airport. Be careful to take only authorized cabs, which will cost you all the way some 30 romanian lei (some 6 british pounds). Otherwise you will pay much more to the bandits. It's some 12 miles journey (25-30 minutes). The whole old town is worth a visit, best by walking around. You must eat at least once in CARU CU BERE restaurant, one of the best in town. The building is historical and inside you will see best and beautiful frescoes. Service is best and the prices ok. You will have opportunity to taste some of the best Romanian dishes, wines or beers. Old town consists of some short and narrow streets with very old buildings, small ones. Just a few years back, they were refurbished and restored to their original style and most of them turned into restaurants, pubs and cafe's. Prices rather high. There are some very old and nice historical buildings around: Stavropoleos Church, CEC building, National history museum building, all of them on a radius of few hundred meters. Calea Victoriei (Victory Road) is one of the most beautiful and fashionable boulevards in town, with all major and luxury brands on it. On Calea Victoriei you will see Royal Palace, now turned into the museum of very valuable paintings. On the opposite side, you will see the beautiful building of Atheneum. Even if you do not like classical music, you should pay a small fee and visit it inside. At the end of Calea Victoriei you will find the Government building, a real piece of architecture and from this place, called Piata Victoriei (Victory Square) two beautiful boulevards lead you to the green zone of Parcul Herastrau. In the vicinity of Old Town you will find Gradina Cismigiu, a small and cozy garden in the middle of town. There are many other things to be seen in Bucharest but an week-end is too short to cover them all. If you have some more questions, shoot!
